Nana’s Dim Sum & Dumplings Opening in Southwest Hoboken

A restaurant that has rapidly expanded since launching just about two years ago will be opening inside one of Hoboken’s newest developments, as Nana’s Dim Sum & Dumplings has signed a lease to open on Jackson Street.

The dim sum-style eatery will be setting up shop on the ground floor of Southend Lofts, an adaptive reuse development of the former My-T Fine Pudding industrial complex. The project has created 110 residential condominiums, 50,000 square feet of commercial space, and 50,000 square feet of ground-floor retail featuring an interior courtyard area.

Nana’s Dim Sum & Dumplings will be taking up a sizable 3,700 square feet of space at the property. The restaurant, first opened in October 2023, began in Colorado, with locations in Boulder, the LoHi neighborhood of Denver, and Aurora.

Per Westword, founders Jack and Kelly Liu were inspired by traditional Chinese recipes passed down to her by their grandmother when launching the restaurant. Nana’s Dim Sum & Dumplings does have one local outpost in Scarsdale, New York, with a Manhattan location on 7th Avenue also in the works.

The restaurant focuses on the dim sum, or smaller plates, experience. Highlights of the menu include Cantonese dishes like crispy shrimp or chili oil braised beef to shrimp and pork shu mai and black bean spareribs.

A variety of buns, fried rice, and noodle dishes dot the menu, as do entrees for those looking for a bigger portion. While the Westchester version of the restaurant serves a variety of beer, wine, and cocktails, it has not been revealed if Nana’s in Hoboken will have a liquor license.

Besides Nana’s Dim Sum & Dumplings, Brooklyn’s Dumbo Market has already been announced as a tenant at Southend Lofts. Charter Realty, which is managing the retail leasing, says that other secured tenants include a 25,100-square-foot full-service fitness facility and a 2,223-square-foot lease for Under Pressure Espresso Bar, a craft coffee concept, and Greek Kitchen.

All in all, over 67,000 square feet of retail and commercial leasing have been inked at Southend Lofts, bringing the project to 72% pre-leased.

“These exciting tenants represent the foundation of what will become one of the area’s most dynamic community hubs,” said Daniel Zelson, Principal of Charter Realty. “Introducing a supermarket and a state-of-the-art fitness center fills two long-standing gaps in the neighborhood’s retail landscape and sets the stage for what residents can look forward to at Southend Hoboken.”

“Retail and residential work hand in hand at Southend Hoboken – the energy of new shops, restaurants, and services enhances livability, while the growing residential base fuels retail success,” added Zelson.
