Charter Realty was brought in for the development of the retail portion of the $200,000,000 Storrs center in 2011. The goal of Storrs center was to become the new downtown and retail center for The University of Connecticut and the surrounding towns.
The Solution
Starting from the ground up, Charter Realty successfully leased over 120,000 square feet of retail, restaurant, and mixed-use space, transforming it into a vibrant community for living, working, and recreation. In addition to 400 residential units, Charter was able to secure a 31,500 square foot Price Chopper Supermarket, 13,500 square foot CVS, a 15,000 square foot UConn Coop bookstore, a 21,000 square foot UConn health center, and a diverse array of smaller tenants, including Moe’s Southwestern, Subway, Insomnia Cookie, Bruegger’s Bagels, Jamba Juice, Bank of America, 7-11, and Webster Bank.
The retail spaces are situated beneath four fully occupied residential floors, and the site also boasts a bustling main street, a 600-car parking garage, and a picturesque town green. This dynamic public-private partnership has evolved into the heart of campus life.
