GREENWICH — Connecticut Natural Gas closed its facility in central Greenwich over a year ago. Now a preschool and daycare operation is planning to move into the vacant site.
Primrose Schools is a national chain for the care and education of preschoolers, toddlers and infants. The private organization is looking to open a facility at 16 Old Track Lane. The site, at the rear of the Equinox fitness center and across the street from the JLofts residential complex, would be repurposed for a school.
Old Track Properties LLC, which owns both the proposed preschool site and JLofts complex, has filed an application to change the use of the property from “industrial” to “school” at the town planning department for Planning & Zoning Commission approval. Both sites are owned by developer John Fareri.
According to the lawyer representing the project, John Tesei, roughly 13,000 square feet in the old CNG property would be converted into classrooms and other facilities for teachers and caregivers.
Roughly 25 employees would work at the site, Tesei said. Hours of operation would be from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tesei said the site has ample parking and “will not infringe on the parking areas for Equinox or the tenants located in the (nearby) multifamily building.”
According to the architectural renderings submitted with the plans, the early childhood center could accommodate up to 144 children from infants and children through kindergarten.
The building was constructed in 1989.
Primrose Schools, which operates on a franchise model, operates around 80 facilities around the U.S. The business says the operation “provides a premier early education and child care experience for children and families.”
The application has not yet been scheduled for a preliminary review by the Planning & Zoning Commission.
