Key Food to open new supermarket near New Haven, Connecticut

Zelco Properties, Grossman Cos. secure grocer for 37,000-square-foot space in Ansonia

Key Food, a supermarket cooperative headquartered in Matawan, New Jersey, has leased 37,000 square feet to open a new location in Ansonia, Connecticut.

The store will anchor the Ansonia Shopping Center, an approximately 177,000-square-foot retail center that also includes HomeGoods, Marshalls and Mattress Firm as tenants. Zelco Properties & Development and The Grossman Cos. own the property, with Zelco’s brokerage arm, Charter Realty, handling leasing.

The owners acquired the property earlier this year for $8.4 million as part of a strategy to reposition the site with grocery and necessity-driven tenants.

For the record

Dan Zelson of Charter Realty represented the landlord in completing the lease.
