CRDC Announces Phases I, II & III Fully Leased in Storrs Center, CT

Phases 1, 2, and 3 Now Fully Leased at Storrs Center—Storrs, CT

Charter Realty and Development is pleased to announce that six new deals have been completed at the Storrs Center in Storrs, CT. This center, which is located just across from the campus of the University of Connecticut, has been a work in progress for the last two years. The center with 300,000sf of GLA combines 160,000sf commercial, and 140,000sf of residential real estate. This center caters to the nearly 22,000 undergraduate, and graduate students that attend the University of Connecticut. The Storrs campus, which has long been the flagship campus of the University of Connecticut historically had very little retail space for its students, and limited off campus housing. The Storrs Center is aimed to fix that. Its 300,000 feet of space, anchored by Price Chopper, CVS, and the UCONN Health Center aims to attract students, and faculty members.

The first three phases of the center are now all 100% leased after the most recent influx of tenants. The only remaining piece of built space that has not been leased is 3000sf in the 3A phase. With the completion of the first three phases, the focus will shift to the Village Street phase which is planned to be an additional 40,000 feet of retail.

The Educational Playcare Center is just one of the new tenants that has been signed for the Storrs Center. Educational Playcare has 6 other locations throughout Connecticut. Educational Playcare is a center for part, and full time childcare center for children aged 6 weeks to 12 years old. It is designed as an educational daycare where children learn through experience. It will occupy 16,000sf. Friendly Fire, a game shop, and hobby center that sells both video, and board games, now occupies a 1,200sf space in Storrs. Bruegger’s Bagels and Jamba Juice will occupy a 2,041sf space. Jamba Juice specializes in fruit smoothies, while Bruegger’s is a bagel, and deli shop with 300 plus locations around the country. This deal was co-brokered with the Proto Group. One Tribe, a clothing and jewelry store is moving into a 850sf space in the center as well. Think it, Drink it, a nutritional supplement company will occupy a 873sf space in the center, and Storrs Liquor, a liquor store, will also occupy a 1,445sf space in the center.
